Filtering In

London is in constant motion. It is busy, loud and fast, and works around the clock to accommodate an even busier life. This piece started in search for the opposite; the quiet places of the borough Tower Hamlets that bring a sense of slowing down.

Hidden in between the fast and loud, where the sound of the wider city drops to the background, though always filters in.

Filtering In was commissioned by Spitalfields Music and presented at Rich Mix in 2019.  The full work consists of two parts, one on headphones (fragment left) and one on speakers in the room, playing simultaneously.

Violin: Beatriz Rola, double bass: Evangelos Saklaras, piano: Julia Koelmans.
Best listened to on headphones.
